Peer Tutor Disclosure
I will be handing you your disclosure the second week of school, because it allows us to get settled and get moving. However; if you are going to be a peer tutor, PLEASE READ BELOW!!!!
Peer Tutor Disclosure
Peer Tutor Disclosure
If you ask most of the high school juniors and seniors why they elected to become a peer tutor; the responses are as varied as the tutors themselves. One thing I can tell you is; it will require and allow you to step away from who you are and realize you truly make a difference and you have skills!Did you know that students who are peer tutors are:
more likely to complete a college degree
report more self happiness and satisfaction
more likely to vote
more likely to be employed and stay employed in their chosen profession
So I salute you and welcome you to another year of peer tutoring here at Jordan High School.
You are not a friend or buddy any more. This is a unique role. You are a tutor. You are teaching others by your lessons, your behavior, your attitude and your willingness to be there. Being there and "in the moment" is one of the most critical elements in peer tutoring. What you do is what they learn. What you do is what they imitate. What you talk about is what they remember. And when your tutoring period is over? You are a hero, a role model, and an advocate.
Peer tutors are amazing! Our peer tutors have graduated to become:
Special Educators Dietitians Nursing students Athletic Trainers Missionaries
Dental Assistants CNAs Engineers Teachers Principals
Social Media Writers Collegiate Athletes Paraeducators Peer Leaders in College
and the list goes on and on
I hope that you, like those before you, enjoy and look back on this experience as one of joy and growth. It is on the job training. Look at the pictures on this website. These students work hard, they try hard, they break down and get back up. Look at the peer tutors. They learn a lot about themselves and their breakdowns and highlights. Best of all, we all learn together. There is always tomorrow ... or even next period!
So welcome and enjoy the journey! You might learn more than you ever imagined along the way.
